In this article, we will be going over steps you need to take in order to unlock Overwatch 2 ranked matchmaking.
The much-hyped game Overwatch 2 is finally here and players who are new to the game will not have the Overwatch 2 ranked matchmaking unlocked.
To unlock this ranked mode players will have to complete the competitive qualification challenge.
The portrait Level system which was part of the original Overwatch game is not available anymore in Overwatch 2 and players must need to complete these Competitive Play qualification challenges to unlock the rank mode.
Overwatch 2 is the successor to the famous hero shooter game Overwatch. It includes groups of 5players who pick ‘Heroes’ with specific powers and abilities.
Each Hero performs a role – Damage, Support, and Tank – and has distinct obligations in matches that are restricted to them.
In this article, we will cover all the necessary steps to unlock ranked matches in Overwatch 2.
Steps to unlock Overwatch 2 ranked match
New players must first complete a tutorial called First Time User Experience (FTUE) presented at the beginning.
In this tutorial, users will learn how a hero works, how to shoot, how to play the target, how to use the different abilities of a hero, and how to move in the game.
Then they must complete the Competitive Play Qualification Challenge, in this challenge each player needs to win a total of 50 Quick Play matches, which includes the following modes: Escort, Push, Control, and Hybrid.
Players can also track their challenge’s progress by clicking Challenges in the main menu and then going to the Competition tab at the top of the screen.
Here they can see how many games they have won and how many more must be completed to finally unlock the mode.
Why do players need to win 50 Quick Play matches?
This is done to ensure newcomers really learn the game before going into ranked mode. It gives them plenty of time to get used to the game’s different mechanics, roles, and modes.
User stats are tracked behind the scenes, allowing developers to optimize the ranked experience for new and experienced players alike.
Most of the new FPS shooter games like Valorant are using the same process to unlock rank matches.
In Valorant players need to be of at least level 2 in order to unlock the ranked matchmaking.
Enforcing this requirement also ensures that players who are playing the game for a long time don’t have a bad competitive experience with new players who have no idea how the game works.
Is playing 50 quick matches necessary for all?
This is only applicable for accounts made on or after the October 4 release date. Anyone who has Competitive unlocked previously will have access to the mode in the game.
