How to increase FPS in Fortnite PC/PS4/Xbox?, it is a hot debate in the town since Fortnite Season 8 update because possibly there were some poor ‘optimization’ updates and everyone was facing FPS drops and high ping issues, so here we have simple ways to increase FPS and also lower your Ping in-game.

There are two main types of lags that any individual player experience in an FPS
game, one is FPS Lag and other is PING lag, both are two different things, and
you should be aware of which one of these are you facing, here is a simple
explanation on which one is which.

FPS Lag is when you experience FPS drops, the cause of this lag is your system
not the server, while, PING Lag is the cause of bad internet connection to the server.

Let’s start with how to fix lag in Fortnite first.

How to increase FPS in Fortnite on PC?

There are two ways of fixing this lag, one is optimising windows 10 and other is optimising Fortnite settings, we will start with optimising windows, don’t worry we will not go into deep optimising, just a little bit show we can get max performance from the windows.

To optimize Windows 10 for Fortnite follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows key + I to open up System settings
  2. In the search bar type “Performance
  3. From the Dropdown menu select “Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows
  4. Now, a popup window will open
  5. In the Visual settings first, select “Adjust for best performance“, it will untick all the options, then, manually tick “Smooth edges of screen fonts” & “Show thumbnails instead of icons

Now, the second step getting maximum performance out of your power options. To do that go to power options and select High performance.

This was all for Windows optimization, there are many videos on YouTube
which shows much deeper optimization but they come at a risk, so I advice
you to do only this until unless there is no effect even after these steps.

Moving on, let’s optimize Fortnite settings to increase FPS.

Well, when we try to increase FPS in any game we normally just decrease
every in-game setting to the minimum but changing everything to the minimum
will also result in less visibility and many other difficulties that you will face
while playing the game.

So, to tackle that issue here we have the best setting that you can use to
increase FPS it will not just give a boost to your frames but will keep the
game playable.

There are some settings in here which you will see are of no use like
‘View Distance’ and we have that set on Epic this is because View Distance
helps you spot enemies and objects at large distances also.

How to increase fps in Fortnite on PS4/Xbox?

Consoles are super easy to optimize because there is only setting that you
need to take care of to get the best FPS possible.

The setting is under ‘Game tab‘, you just need to switch on the ‘60 FPS‘ setting and the console will take care of rest.

This setting will prioritize 60 FPS ahead of any visual effects.

How to lower Ping in Fortnite on PC?

There are not much that you can do to fix this lag, the main cause of this
issue is your internet connection and here are some procedures that you
should follow in order to reduce lag.

  • Update latest network drivers.
  • Use ethernet (wired) connection, not Wi-Fi (wireless) connection.
  • Reboot your router – a quick off/on can give it a kick into action.
  • Close other bandwidth-hogging apps and devices, like Chrome, Origin, Steam
  • Select the closest geographical server to you.
  • Reinstall Fortnite – if none of the above work, you could always try completely reinstalling the game.

There is also a possibility that some of your unnecessary backgrounds apps maybe
causing CPU overload, you should definitely close those unnecessary apps while
playing Fortnite.

How to decrease Ping in Fortnite on Xbox/PS4?

The Xbox/PS4 procedures are also almost same as PC, just a couple others
that may result in decreasing your Ping and help you in securing that Victory Royale.

  • Use ethernet (wired) connection, not Wi-Fi (wireless) connection.
  • Reboot your router – a quick off/on can give it a kick into action.
  • Close other bandwidth-hogging devices, i.e. watching a YouTube video or Twitch stream.
  • Select the closest geographical server to you.
  • Check Fortnite’s server status.
  • Reinstall Fortnite – if none of the above work, you could always try completely reinstalling the game.

These are all temporary methods which should help you a little bit but the extreme optimization update will surely come from Epic Games itself in near future till then enjoy the game and I hope these methods helped you a little bit.
