Players have been facing stuttering issue in Modern Warfare 2 after the recent Windows 11 update and here are some of the steps that you can take to fix this issue.
Activision’s latest Modern Warfare addition has been facing criticism for not being up to the mark as a AAA title.
The game has been facing a lot of bugs, glitches, and errors since its launch. However, the developers have been very supportive and fixed almost everything as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, Modern Warfare 2 players are now experiencing a new stuttering issue on Windows 11.
Nvidia users have been reporting issues with Modern Warfare 2, including screen flickers, stutters, FPS drops, and more. Unlike the previous case, this time the fault doesn’t lie on MW2’s end.
In this article, we will cover all the steps to fix this issue.
Windows 11 update creating a stuttering issue in Modern Warfare 2
Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 update is causing problems for some gamers, with reports of stuttering and lower-than-expected performance. In a post on their official website, Microsoft acknowledged the problem and stated that they are working on a fix. The bug report states:
“Affected games and apps are inadvertently enabling GPU performance debugging features not meant to be used by consumers.”
I’m sorry to say that one of the games that is causing problems is Modern Warfare 2.
So, when the game starts to stutter on your computer, you can be sure that it’s not something you’re doing wrong.
Fixing stutters in Modern Warfare 2
Microsoft has provided a few workarounds for the current situation with Modern Warfare 2, but they don’t really seem to help. According to Microsoft’s bug report, the situation is only getting worse.
“If you are already on Windows 11, version 22H2 and are experiencing this issue, you might be able to resolve it by updating your games and gaming related apps to the latest version available. If you are unsure how to update the games and apps you have installed, you will need to consult the developer of those games and apps but most will update automatically through the store they were purchased from or directly when opening them.”
It’s a shame that MW2 hasn’t been updated to address this particular issue. However, it’s still advisable to update your game as soon as possible. Similarly, make sure to proceed with any Windows 11 updates that you may have received.
Until then, you can try the following fixes to potentially fix the Modern Warfare 2 stuttering issue:
1) Update GPU drivers
Nvidia’s drivers have caused problems with MW2 in the past. To ensure a smooth and consistent performance, both Nvidia and AMD GPU users should update their GPUs to the latest versions. This process will install the latest profiles for your game.
2) Reset overclocks/undervolt
Overclocking or undervolting your system can cause problems with MW2, resulting in crashes and/or stutters. It is advisable to revert back to factory settings before playing.
3) Rollback Windows 11 update
If none of the above methods have worked, you can always rollback your Windows 11 update. To do so, you must follow these steps:
- First, head over to ‘Settings’.
- Then, go to ‘System’.
- Now, select ‘Recovery’ from the list of available options.
- From here, click on ‘Go back’. Now follow the instructions on your screen and you will be back to an older Windows 11 version.
This is all you need to know about fixing Modern Warfare 2 stuttering in Windows 11. If the problem still persists, users can contact the Activision support team for further assistance.
